What to do When You Encounter Stubborn, Pesky Nits

August 18, 2017

Six to twelve million kids in the United States suffer from head lice infestation. This is because kids come into close contact with each other.

From over-the-counter procedures to prescription medication, people employ a variety of treatment methodologies to deal with lice.

However, with the advent of super lice, many of these methods have become quite ineffective.

We at Urgent Lice Removal provide you a general course of action when dealing with stubborn nits. Read on:

Comb Out

This means getting the nits out through a lice removal comb. This comb is made of metal and has teeth that are quite close to each other.

You can use a hair conditioner and dip the comb into it before you comb through your kid’s hair. If your kid has thin hair, you might want to use baking soda.

To do this effectively, you should separate sections of your hair and comb through each of these sections. Make sure you go deep and touch the scalp.

Carry Out another Comb Out

This comb out involves getting your child’s hair wet and applying the conditioner. After this, you might want to wrap the hair in a towel so that the conditioner settles in.

Use the nit comb again and comb your kid’s hair thoroughly. This time, you will be able to pull the lice out. Remember that lice are light-sensitive and fast, so you might need to pluck them out real quick.

After you are finished with the process, you will need to disinfect the comb. Soaking it in ammonia for around 20 minutes will do the job.

Repeat the procedure after every 5 days and make sure you regularly change pillow cases and towels of the affected kid.

Clear Bugs from the Whole House

From pillows to stuffed animals, you should delouse the entire house to minimize the chances of bugs spreading to other family members.

Get a lint brush and thoroughly clean all the areas where lice can reside. Vacuum rugs and carpets in the house. Also, keep your car’s seat covers clean.

Make Sure You Follow Up

This is the part that most parents ignore. After their kid’s head gets cleared of lice, they might not follow up.

Following up is important because even if there’s only one nit left, lice infestation might happen again.

To have absolute peace of mind, you might want to have professional lice removal services. This is where Urgent Lice Removal comes in. Our lice treatment centers in Weston and Plantation use natural products to help your kid get rid of lice.
